I have an extended health plan or Employee Assistants Plan (EAP)are you able to provide services under these plans?

Each extended health plan dictates the qualifications of the person you may see. You will need to check to see if your plan accepts Registered Clinical Counsellors as service providers. Please fill free to check with me if you have further questions about this matter.

Do you do evening or weekend appointments?

Most of my appointment times are M-F within normal business hours. I have a limited number of evening appointments.

What are your fees?

I charge $100.00 per hour HST included. I do negotiate my fees for a limited number of clients who do not have the means to pay for counselling at the full rate, provide that the appointment is during daytime hours.

How long is an appointment and how frequently will I see you?

I try to maintain a flexible model that fits with my clients needs. Standard counselling practice is a one hour appointments, once a week. However, if clients desire to come more often or for longer periods of time, this can be arranged. I do encourage clients to maintain a minimum frequency of once a week in the first few weeks to insure the maximum benefit from counselling.

Do you provide email or phone counselling?

Although I believe that in person counselling services are best, I do understand that there are circumstances where seeing a counselor in person is virtually impossible. Where possible I like to do an initial session or two in person and then we can continue on through phone or email counselling.

I have never been to see a counsellor before, can you tell me what to expect?

First of all, you should know that I maintain rigid standards to insure that the information your share with me remains between us. In the first appointment I allow us to get to know each other better. I will ask you questions about your life and the nature of your difficulties. I also welcome your questions about the process and my approach. Generally, by the end of the first session, we collaboratively come up with an approach or direction to get you the outcome you desire. Future sessions involve me helping you explore, through probing questions, beliefs, expectations, feelings and thoughts. Clients often comment “that I ask questions that they would never have considered”. Often I will use material in the moment, to help the client learn experientially about styles of communication and new ways of doing things. As a creative person, I offer learning experiences that enhance the client’s ability to understand behaviors. In addition, I maintain a lending library and handouts for clients, as a means of encouraging and supporting their growth.
